Cookies Policy
Last updated: 5 August 2026
1. Introduction
This Cookies Policy explains how Harvestt ("we," "us," or "our"), operated by Scott Bromley and Joe Belcher (cofounders), uses cookies and similar technologies on www.harvestt.co.uk (marketing pages and the signed-in web product).
The Harvestt native mobile app does not use website cookies. On-device storage used by the app is described in our Privacy Policy (Section 2.4). This Cookies Policy should be read together with that Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect and use personal information more broadly.
2. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work, remember your preferences, keep you signed in, and understand how a site is used.
We may also use similar technologies such as local storage or session storage in your browser. Where those technologies serve a similar purpose to cookies, we treat them in the same way under this policy.
3. How We Use Cookies
We use cookies for three main reasons:
- Essential operation: so you can sign in, stay signed in, and use the Service securely
- Measurement: so we can see which versions of our marketing pages work better and improve the site
- Analytics: basic first-party / hosting analytics to understand traffic and reliability, and Hotjar heatmaps / session recordings on marketing pages when configured
When we run paid advertising, we may also use Google Ads conversion cookies so we can measure whether a visit led to a subscription. We do not use social media advertising pixels.
4. Cookies We Use
4.1 Essential cookies
These cookies are required for the Service to function. Without them, sign-in and core product features would not work reliably.
| Cookie / technology | Purpose | Provider | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clerk session cookies (names may vary, e.g. __session, __client_uat) | Authenticate users, maintain signed-in sessions, and manage farm organisation context | Clerk | Session / up to the lifetime set by Clerk for secure auth |
| CSRF / security cookies (as set by Clerk or the Service) | Protect against cross-site request forgery and related attacks | Clerk / Harvestt | Session or short-lived |
4.2 Measurement cookies (first-party)
On the marketing site we run first-party experiments so we can learn which page layouts and messaging work better. These cookies are set by Harvestt, are not shared with advertising networks, and do not identify you by name on their own.
| Cookie | Purpose | Provider | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| hv_vid | Opaque visitor identifier used as the unit of randomisation for experiments | Harvestt | Up to 400 days |
| hv_exp | Stores which experiment variants you have been assigned to, so assignments stay stable | Harvestt | Up to 180 days |
| hv_exp_force (optional / testing) | Allows forced experiment overrides for internal testing | Harvestt | Short-lived / as set |
4.3 Analytics
We use Vercel Analytics to understand aggregate traffic and performance of the Service. Depending on how it is configured, this may use cookies or similar first-party measurement. It is not used to serve advertisements.
We may also use Hotjar on marketing pages to collect heatmaps and session recordings that show how visitors interact with the site (for example clicks, scrolls, and page navigation). Hotjar may set cookies such as _hjSession_* and _hjSessionUser_*. Recordings are limited to marketing pages; we do not use Hotjar on the signed-in product. Hotjar's own privacy policy applies to data it processes.
4.4 Advertising conversion (Google Ads)
If Google Ads is configured for Harvestt, Google's global site tag may set cookies (for example _gcl_au) so we can attribute a completed Stripe Checkout to an ad click. The conversion event is fired only on the post-payment thank-you page, using the amount paid.
4.5 Local storage
We may also store small amounts of data in your browser's local storage or session storage, for example:
- Whether you have dismissed the on-site cookie notice (
hv_cookie_notice_dismissed) - First-touch attribution details for measuring how visitors find the site (session storage only)
5. Third-Party Cookies
Essential authentication cookies are set in connection with Clerk, our sign-in provider. Hosting and analytics may involve Vercel. Hotjar may set cookies on marketing pages when configured. Google Ads conversion cookies may be set when paid advertising is active. We do not place social-media tracking cookies.
If we add further third-party cookies, we will update this Cookies Policy and, where required, seek appropriate consent.
6. Managing Cookies
You can control cookies in several ways:
- Browser settings:Most browsers let you block or delete cookies. See your browser's help pages for instructions. Note that blocking essential cookies may prevent you from signing in or using the Service.
- On-site notice: Our marketing pages show a short cookie notice explaining our first-party measurement cookies, with a link to this policy.
If you clear cookies, experiment assignments and some preferences may reset, and you may need to sign in again.
7. Legal Basis (UK / EEA)
Where UK PECR and UK/EU GDPR apply, we rely on:
- Strictly necessary cookies: to provide a service you have requested (for example authentication)
- Legitimate interests and/or consent: for measurement and analytics cookies, as described in our Privacy Policy
You may object to non-essential processing or withdraw consent where processing is based on consent by contacting us or adjusting your browser settings.
8. Changes to This Cookies Policy
We may update this Cookies Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page when we do. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
